Lone Wolf Personality Type

A lone wolf is a character stereotype wherein a person prefers to be alone rather than be in a group. Just like a wolf that does not have the desire to be in a pack when by nature, wolves are drawn to be part of a pack.

In animals such as wolves, there will be the ones that will either be left behind or choose to leave. A lone wolf in the animal kingdom can be the older one pushed away by the stronger and alpha male members of the pack. Conversely, a younger wolf chooses to leave in order to find its own pack.

There are people we meet in lives who fall in this category. He or she is the colleague who prefers not to attend a Friday night out with the rest, the employee who would rather work alone than in a group and that person who will attend team building activities but who will not really participate.

The hypothesis in the study was that people choose their own psychological functions and children who fall in the category as lone wolves and with less social resources are more likely to find difficulties in psychological adjustments. Of the number of elementary student respondents which was 689, 17% of these children were categorized as lone wolves, with boys outnumbering the girls. College students were also studied and the same results were yielded. They have lower self-efficacy, self-esteem scales and higher loneliness scale. They said they do not have significant people in their lives, are independent and are in no need of anyone because they can do things on their own.

On Life Experiences

Study had also been made in older people to find out if happiness in later life is connected with past experiences. The test yielded results that elderly people who preferred to be alone were more focused on the negative aspects of their lives rather than the positive. Results also showed that 85% of lone wolves were dissatisfied with their lives, lacked self-confidence and were unhappy. According to the study, lone wolves are those type of people who have highlight the negative aspects of their relationships throughout their lives and found it difficult to move on after a traumatic experience in their lives.

Lone Wolves in Sales

Despite the seemingly withdrawn attitude of lone wolves, they can be assets to an organization, especially in sales. Generally, they are difficult to control because they want to do things their way and they follow their instincts. These might be just the two reasons why they can be included among the best in sales. They are more likely to deliver results.

On the weaknesses of lone wolves when it comes to being part of a company or an organization, there are several points that are worth considering. They are the type of individuals who do not necessarily stick with the rules and are not fond of being managed. Also, since they are not team players, they will not go the extra mile to fill in on a task or even pick up the phone when it is ringing because they know someone else will do it.

Lone wolves can also have less confidence in the capabilities of others or the people they work with. They also have their own ideas when it comes to getting work done. Additionally, they lack interpersonal skills and do not feel they have to be loyal to the organization. However, they are task-oriented and hard workers. They also have leadership skills and have high standards. That said, they can still be key figures in an organization.
