About Angie
I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who said, “I want to be a recruiter when I grow up,” and I’ve met a lot of people. I certainly didn’t plan to become an affordable housing recruiter, but I can’t imagine doing anything else now. Helping companies find the right people to build and preserve homes for those who need them most is the most fulfilling work I’ve ever done. My path here wasn’t exactly direct—retail sales, law school, 13 years as a litigator—but each twist brought me closer to the work I truly love. And when I landed at Joseph Chris Partners, an award-winning executive search firm focused on real estate development and construction, I found my niche in affordable housing.
So, I revisited my childhood dream of becoming a lawyer like my dad and took my second turn when I graduated from Baylor Law School in 1999. I loved law school. It was fun and challenging and what I always thought it would be when watching Ally McBeal. The practice of law, on the other hand, was very different, and after 13 years as a commercial litigator, I was ready to hang it all up and become a bartender or braid tourists’ hair on the beach when someone suggested recruiting. I spent a couple of years recruiting lawyers when I stumbled on Joseph Chris Partners, an award-winning executive search firm specializing in real estate development and construction.
The only thing I knew about real estate development and construction was from personal experience having my own home built, but I jumped in and learned. I got my first client in affordable housing development shortly after I started. I learned as much as I could as quickly as I could about that segment of the industry, and I was in awe of how much passion everyone I spoke to in those early days had for their roles in developing communities and building homes. In addition to supporting all our clients who develop and build residential and commercial projects nationwide, I focus on helping clients in affordable housing build strong teams that build strong communities for those who need them most.
I joined the founding Board of Directors for the National Women’s Affordable Housing Network (WAHN) where I serve as the Vice President of Communications. I am also a member of the State Bar of Texas and The Texas Affiliation of Affordable Housing Providers. I routinely get to host amazing professionals from the Affordable Housing industry on our WAHNcast, the podcast of the Women’s Affordable Housing Network. And I usually make it to several industry conferences every year, including TAAHP, AHF Live, and of course, the WAHN Summit.
When I'm not working, I'm laughing at something my boyfriend has said or enjoying something delicious he’s cooked, hanging out with our five rescue pups (Sasha, Betsy, Gunner, Nova & Chewie), singing loudly at a concert (we saw Barry Manilow and U2 at the Sphere this year), cheering on the Astros or the Cowboys (one is easier than the other to cheer for), and planning my next travel adventure with my daughter (we’ve been to NY, Key West, Puerto Rico, Chicago, Oahu, San Francisco, Belize, London, Paris, Greece, Jamaica & Iceland together).
I’m a military brat, I hate cilantro and driving over bridges, and I went to State in debate my senior year of high school. My walk-out song would be Super Trouper by ABBA. (And I have seen their ABBA Voyage concert in London!)
